Growing up, I’m sure there were always people dismissing you as just the son of a former NBA player (Dell Curry). Was there a moment when you realized you were your own player, with your own skill set and that you belonged in the NBA? Or did it gradually come?

SC: It gradually came. In high school, fans would chant ‘you’re not better than your father’ or stuff like that and try to get in your head. Actually, I knew early on I was a different player than my father and I had point guard skills. He was a great shooter, but I do some extra stuff. I was pretty confident in my game early and I knew I could be a great player. I just went with it.

ドラフトコンバインに来ている選手たちは、メディアとのインタビューでいい印象を残すため、メディアコーチという職業の人たちから特訓を受けているらしい。代理人がそうするよう勧めているらしい。ただ、訓練を受けた選手は皆同じような返答をするので各チームのスカウト係の人は苦笑いしている模様。彼らは皆「趣味は？」と聞かれたら「ボランティアです。」とか答えている模様。

これについて、記者「君達はボランティアに情熱を傾けてきたって？10代の子にそんな子はほとんどいないぞ。君たちがたいしてしてないのもばればれだ。本当のメディアコーチとは、選手をリラックスさせ、魅力的に見せ、緊張する場面でも冷静にいられるようにするものじゃないのか。同じセリフを繰り返させるのはこれとま逆だ。」

彼は先月あたり、「昔ストリートでプレーした選手が今までで一番強い選手。刑務所に行ってしまったが。」とか「Cバークリーとは実際にプレーしたことがないのでどんな選手だったかよくわからないが、彼にはディフェンス力がなかった。過大評価されている。」と発言した（動画）。

今回はその発言の補足。「ロイが一番ディフェンスしづらい選手」とか、「ストリートにも優れた選手はいる」という内容。

すでにけっこう動画を投稿しているのが驚きというかどこか笑える（リスト）。100ドルの朝食に関して4分ずっとしゃべってるのも笑える。

あとロケッツ時代の成績を比べると、アーテストのほうがバークリーより優れてるのも驚き。ああいうふうに発言するだけの実績は残しているのがさすが。

Lastly, a sit-down chat with Michael Jordan after the Olympics cemented Anthony's reformed attitude.

"MJ said, 'I'm not telling you what to do, but
this is my suggestion,' " Anthony recalls. "His (advice) was to control
my own life. Did I want to be a good player — or the best? I said, 'OK,
I'm going to do it.' I know I can control my destiny. It took me some
'me time' to sit down and figure out what I wanted to be."

カーメロはオリンピックの後、Mジョーダンにアドバイスをもらった。それについて「彼は言った。「これは説教じゃない、提案だ。」と。彼のアドバイスは生活の管理についてだった。いい選手になりたいのか、それとも最高の選手になりたいのか、と。俺は「これからちゃんと自己管理をする。」と答えた。自分の運命をコントロールするのは自分だ。話し合いのあと一人きりで考え、その結果、自分の理想像がつかめたんだ。」

今まで何度もトラブルを起こしたことについて「あの（08年の飲酒運転の）事件のあと、「もうこんなことはやめよう」と思った。怖かった。世界中が敵に思えた。」

子供ができたのも自分が変わった要因であることについて「子供が大きくなって学校に行って、そこで子供が皆に「お前の親父どうかしたのか？」なんて言われるのは、俺はいやだ。子供のおかげで人生も考え方も変わった。（子供が生まれた日の）一晩で俺は成長した。そうならなければおかしい。」

リーダー像について 「リーダーになりたかったが、どうしていいか分からなかった。いろいろあったから、誰も俺を認めてくれなかった。それに俺も言ったことと違うことをやっていた。今は前向きな人が集まっている。でも結局俺次第だ。でないと誰もついてきてくれない。」

「今の俺を見てくれ、うまくいったんだ。俺が変わったのをみんながわかってくれている。もう昔のようになることなんてないよ。」

ウィザーズはマーブリーを獲得しようとしているらしく、ここ最近ほぼ毎日のように話しあっているらしい。獲得の理由は、ソーンダース監督が彼のことを気に入っているから。GMのグランフェルドもニックス時代から彼のファンだったから。グランフェルドは、ニックス時代、ネッツにマーブリーを取られたので、かわりにMターキャンを獲得している。

選手として獲得するじゃないよね？会社の破産手続き講座の先生とか、不動産投資の先生として獲得するんすよね？ちょっとほんとこれ以上カオスなことはやめてくんない。

どうでもいいけど、ウィキによると、ターキャンの妹は有名な歌手で、Pクルスにかなり似ているらしい。

OJメイヨーをサザンカリフォルニア大学に入学させたGuilloryという人物に、ティム・フロイド監督が報酬として金を渡していた件に関するインタビュー記事。以下、Yahoo記者のコメント。

事件について「驚いてはいない。カレッジバスケはひどいビジネスだから。あらゆるタイプの人間が子供に関わっている。学生は状況を巧みに操りチャンスを狙う。そしてAAUや高校、大学の監督も絡んでくる。・・・OJのような子は、大金を稼ぐ選手になるのが明らかな場合でも大学に行かなくてはいけない。まわりもそれがわかっているんだ。」

Guilloryについて「メイヨーは少なくとも高校3年のころには既に彼と面識があった。・・・おもしろいことに、ABCDキャンプというところで「最も人生に影響を与えた人物は？」という質問に対して、彼はGuilloryの名をあげている。」

事件がどこまで発展しているかについて「大学だけのことじゃなくなっている。FBI、IRS（国税庁）、連邦刑事も絡んでる。FBIは彼らが慈善団体を詐欺目的で使用した件を調査している。IRSはBill DuffyスポーツエージェンシーからGuilloryに流れた20万ドルについて知りたがっており、又、そのうちメイヨーがどれだけ受け取ったのか調べている。こうなると所得税の追徴も絡んでくる。政府関係者が大勢絡んでいる。NCAAや大学だけの問題じゃなくなっている。」

front of this.' Maybe there's somebody who is in their 20s and has
young onset and is scared. We're all going through this together. I'm
just stepping into it. But now I'm ready to step into it. This has
given me a purpose.

ブレイザーズなどでプレーしたブライアン・グラントは、パーキンソン病にかかっていることを告白。外見は選手時代とあまり変わっていないが、去年の夏から左手の震えが止まらない模様。医師二人に見てもらい、食事管理にも気を払い、今のところ少し症状が軽くなった模様。告白しようと決意したのは、Mアリの家族やMJフォックスとの話し合い、最近ガンで亡くなったティスデイルなどがきっかけ。以下、彼のコメント。

グラント「若年発症のパーキンソン病にかかっている。」

「自己管理ができなくなるんじゃないかというのが一番恐れていることだ。誰かの手を借りないといけなくなる、ということもだ。」

「ティスデイルは俺がルーキーの時に（キングスで）いろいろ助けてくれた。最後まで前向きな人だった。彼が亡くなったことを聞いて、彼の闘病の様子を思い浮かべた。そして思った。「俺がしなくてはいけないことはなんだ？・・・立ちあがって、男らしくなることだ」と。」

「引退後はこれほど多くの人の前にでないようにしていた。左手の震えを隠すようにしてきた。見られたら「どうしたんだろう」と思われるから。それが一番困っていたことだ。選手たちに弱者扱いされたくなかった。・・・俺が車いすに乗っている、とか体がおかしいんじゃないかという噂が流れていると聞いたので、発表することにした。俺と同じ病気の20代の人もいて、怖さを感じているだろう。みな同じ体験をしている。（闘病の発表を）始めたばかりだが、心構えはできた。今後の目的もできた。」

今後は闘病の様子をサイトやTwitterで報告していく予定の模様。

Dフォークの本の内容

90年代、Dスターンに次ぐ影響力を持っていた人物にして、Mジョーダンのプロデューサー（？）、Dフォークの著書のレビュー記事より。以下、本の内容。

・アイバーソンに解雇されたのは、アイバーソンの母親にファーストクラスの航空券を買ってあげなかったことが原因。

・KG、オロワカンディ、スプリーウェル、Gヒル、デュークのJウィリアムズのこと。Sケンプのひどい契約をまとめた他の代理人の話など。

・IトーマスやBハンターが会長をしていた時のNBA選手協会のまとまりのなさ、それが原因で選手協会はDスターンやオーナーとの交渉で下手に回ったことなど。ハンターにアドバイスしようとしたら、ハンターに「私は黒人だ。この業界で自分なりのアイデンティティーを確立したいんだ。だからあんたら白人の弁護士に相談はできない。」と言われたことなど。

・当時としては革命的だったジョーダンの3000万ドルの契約のこと。

・昔スターだったDフェリーはクリッパーズにドラフトされたのにクリッパーズでプレーしたくないためイタリアのチームに行った。この前例のない契約時のこと。

・Mビビーとキングス、またJハワード、モーニング、Sブラッドリーのこと。

・Eブランドがシクサーズに行った時の過程に関する真相。

・昔は、ドラフトにおいて、契約に関する権限は代理人が持っていた。そのためマジック・ジョンソンの25年2500万ドルの契約は彼により行われた。ただ、市場がこれほど拡大した現在のことを考えると、彼の実力にまるで釣り合わない契約になってしまい、大きなミスをした、と告白。

・大型新人として期待されていたPユーイングの代理人をしていた時、300万ドルの契約を獲得できると思っていたのに120万ドルしか提示されなかったので、フォークはニックスを脅して300万ドルの契約を取った模様。その時の台詞「このままなら彼をジョージタウンでもう1年プレーさせる。聖パトリックの降臨を期待してすでにシーズンチケットを買ったファンに、その旨を電話で伝えたらどんな事態になるでしょうね。」

・代理人業界の変化についても言及。90年代に入り、(高校卒業後直接NBAに入る選手が増えたので)選手が代理人を選択するにあたり、大学の監督よりもAAUの監督が重要な役割を果たすようになった。そのため、業界は大きく変わった模様。また、彼自身も会社を売却したことなども。

この記事を書いた、記者の意見の要約「この本は、顧客獲得という営業目的があるのか、成功話が多すぎる。彼自身の心の葛藤や業界改革に向けての提言があればよかったのだが。とはいえ裏話に興味あるスポーツファンにとっては素晴らしい本であり、それ以外の人にもビジネスにおける彼の信条は引き付けられるところがあるだろう。」

本を買わなくてもDフォークについてはWikipediaにかなり詳しく書かれているのでそちらを読めばある程度のことはわかりますが・・・やはり読んでみたい。90年代のNBAを知っている人にはおもしろいんじゃないでしょうか。

監督「チャウンシーが来る前に、すでにチームの雰囲気は変わっていた。・・・チャウンシーは、私のスポークスマンになった。私が伝えたいことをみんなに伝えてくれた。結果、争いも、選手のエゴ管理もしなくて済むようになったんだ。」

The embattled former All-Star told his sob story to ESPN last week, saying it wasn't just clashes with team coaches that plagued his time in New York - it was the same clinically diagnosed illness that haunts many Iraq war vets.

"I had posttraumatic stress from different things going on," Marbury told ESPN. "[My psychiatrist] told me, 'You're a mess, basically.' "

"Everything that I went through this [season], it was tough," he said.

But less than three months after leaving New York for the Boston Celtics, Marbury said many of his demons are behind him.

"To end up in this situation, it's like you go from hell to being in heaven," he said.

Marbury discussed at length the despair he suffered after his father died during a Dec. 2, 2007, game between the Knicks and the Phoenix Suns.

"I basically lost my mind when my father died," he said. "I was in shock. Going to a psychiatrist was the best thing I ever did."
